Racklogic

The inspection took a day.
So did the paperwork.

Racklogic is a rack inspection and compliance platform born inside the trade it serves. Its founder has supplied and installed pallet racking for over a decade — and when a new Australian Standard turned inspections into an industry-wide obligation, he watched that industry answer it with phone cameras and Excel.

The Problem

The Problem

“Phone photos, Excel, and a CAD licence nobody was trained on.”

AS 4084:2023 requires pallet racking to be inspected and certified by a competent person at least every twelve months. Overnight, every warehouse and premises with racking needed an inspector — and they turned to the people who knew racking: their suppliers.

The suppliers said yes, with zero systems. Inspections ran as loss leaders to win the repair work, documented with phone photos transferred to a desktop, reports assembled by hand in Excel, floor plans fumbled together in CAD. The admin routinely took as long as the inspection itself. The founder knows because his own business was doing exactly this.

What It Could Be

What It Could Be

The complete Racklogic picture is a full rack-management system: inspectors and warehouse managers sharing one platform, defects flowing into remediation, remediation into rack health over time. None of that was discarded. All of it was deferred, behind one question:

What does this product have to prove first? Answer: that an inspector’s entire day — walk, record, certify — works end-to-end in the field, with the report falling out the back as a by-product.

The First Decision

The First Decision

Built First

—

A native tablet app for the inspector’s day.

—

The floor plan, built live during the walk.

—

The bay builder — racks configured from real components: uprights, beams, braces.

—

Defects captured against the plan as they’re found.

—

The AS 4084:2023 certification report, generated on completion.

—

Offline, everywhere, the whole way through.

Deferred — Until Earned

—

The web app — convenience, deferred to field reality.

—

Multi-select tools in the floor plan.

—

Multi-site capability.

—

Second-tier roles and permissions.

The report used to be a second job. Now it is a by-product of the walk.

Where Software Actually Runs

Where Software Actually Runs

The field decided
the architecture.

Rack inspections happen in storage freezers and cavernous distribution centres — places where wifi is a rumour. So the first release is a native tablet app that works fully offline, because an inspector mid-freezer can’t wait for a signal bar.

That decision had a cost: the web app, the convenient thing everyone expects, went to the deferred list.

Between convenience and the place the work actually happens, the field won.

It always should.

A Decade, Encoded

A Decade, Encoded

Nothing like it existed to buy. So it was built.

The founder’s vision for the bay builder came straight from the trade: configure a bay from the real components — uprights, beams, braces — then let every defect recorded against a component roll up into collective reporting, and eventually into ordering the parts downstream.

No component library existed anywhere in the market to licence, so Pilot Light’s engineering built one — a genuinely novel piece of the product, carrying ten years of racking knowledge in its data model. And it works.

Component Library

Built from scratch. First of its kind.

Uprights

Height, gauge, finish — each variant distinct

Beams

Span, load rating, beam-end type

Braces

Configuration and fixing method recorded

Defects

Captured per component, rolled up by bay

→ Downstream: parts ordering

What the Real World Says

What the Real World Says

Racklogic is live — soft-launched into the founder’s own racking business, where his inspection team is running real inspections on it ahead of the public launch. Real warehouses, real defects, real certification reports, produced by the people with the least patience for software that slows a day down.

The first customer is the founder’s own crew. The product earns its public launch the way every stage here earns the next — with evidence.

Status

Live — soft launch

Test Environment

Founder’s own inspection business

Real Output

AS 4084:2023 certification reports

The Critics

Inspectors with zero tolerance for slow software

Soft launch.
Proving the day.

The soft launch has one job: prove the inspector’s day end-to-end, at field pace, until the loop is boringly reliable. The public launch follows the evidence — and the deferred list (the web app, multi-site, the rest) gets funded the same way everything here has been: by what the release proves.

There’s a quiet commercial inversion underway too: the audit that the industry ran as a loss leader is becoming a product in its own right.

Why It Worked This Way

Why It Worked This Way

Racklogic is what a decade of domain expertise looks like when it is pointed at software: a regulation-made market the founder saw from inside, a first release scoped to the one day that matters, an architecture dictated by freezers rather than fashion, and a novel component library nobody else could have specified.

Different products make different first decisions — but every good one starts by asking what the problem actually deserves.
